For the Fallen
SIR – I was quite annoyed to read that the 3D film commemorating the First World War and directed by Peter Jackson is to be called They Shall Not Grow Old.
The words to be found in Laurence Binyon’s poem, “For the Fallen”, are “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.”
They are frequently misquoted on Remembrance Sunday – but I would have thought that the Imperial War Museums, which co-commissioned the film, could have got them right.
Is there time for the quotation to be corrected before the film is shown? John Brandon
