Dear, oh dear
SIR – Martin Hewitt (Letters, August 22) wonders about the correct way of beginning letters to organisations when “Dear Sirs” seems wrong.
If he is uncertain as to the identity of the appropriate recipient, he could try “To whom it may concern”. B C Thomas
Taunton, Somerset
SIR – My solution to this conundrum is to write “Dear All”. Ros Fitton
Solihull, West Midlands SIR – “Greetings”. Andrew Baines Hatherden, Hampshire
SIR – A Somerset hospital writes to my doctor as “Dear Dr Not known” – even though it has a record of my referral. Lynne Waldron
Woolavington, Somerset
SIR – Mr Hewitt should try “Yo Guys”, followed by “Laters”, perhaps, when signing off. Susan Clark
Hailsham, East Sussex
