Hartford swoops on Navigators

US insurer the Hartford has agreed a $2.1bn (£1.6bn) takeover of Navigators Group, which offers insurance for the marine, construction and energy industries. The Hartford has a market cap of $18bn. It is the latest deal in the specialist insurance market this year, following AIG’S swoop for Validus and Axa’s $15bn move for XL Group.
