BBC Proms 2018: Prom 55 – Iván Fischer and Budapest Festival Orchestra (II)
RADIO 3, 7.30PM
Tonight’s Prom is the second to feature the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer, who founded it as a challenger to the statefunded orchestras of communist Hungary. They remain called the Festival Orchestra because, as Fischer recently told this newspaper, “we want to keep the sense that every time we play it’s a special occasion.” Tonight, they play a selection of Dances by Liszt and Brahms, concluding with Brahms’s Symphony No1 in C minor.
