Triumph after footballing injury

-

AN ASPIRING goalkeeper achieved close to top marks despite missing three months of Year 11 due to a football injury. Alex Davis, 16, achieved four 9s and three 8s, despite being kicked in the head during a match for Cheltenham u16s. He suffered a bleed on the brain, a fractured skull and smashed eye socket and was told he could never play contact sports again, shattering his dream of playing in the Premier League. On opening his results he said: “I’m still in shock – my parents were in tears. It’s so amazing after everything I’ve been through. I can’t believe it.”

Next month, he plans to run the Bristol Half Marathon to raise money for Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, which cared for him after the injury.
