Young Musician hits high note
LAUREN ZHANG, the BBC’S Young Musician of the Year, has passed her GCSE exams with flying colours.
The pianist, who won the competition in May, said her results were “better than expected”. She gained seven 9 grades and three A*s.
The 16-year-old pupil, above, at King Edward VI High School in Birmingham added: “Winning both the award and getting the amazing results was such a big achievement.
“I didn’t really do anything else but stay in and revise as well as practising piano every day, so it will be nice to get out of the house now everything is done.” Lauren, who dreams of becoming a professional pianist, will take maths, further maths, chemistry, biology and physics at A-level.
