D-day veteran’s home burgled on first trip back to battlefields
♦ A 94-year-old Normandy veteran making his first visit back to the battlefields was forced to cut his trip short after burglars ransacked his home in Wales.
Eric Vaughan, a former Royal Marine, of Prestatyn, was making a return on a cruise ship to where he landed with commando reinforcements after D-day in 1944, when a neighbour told him and his wife Beryl of the break-in.
The veteran came home to discover his laptop, two watches, a jack knife and some old German currency all missing.
Mr Vaughan told The Daily Telegraph: “I am nearly 95 and I thought that I was doing quite well, but this has really shattered me.”
