Otters ate all our fish
SIR – We in this country are no less able or willing than the EU to look after wildlife and such natural assets as rivers (Letters, August 23).
However, the special treatment given to otters has created a situation where there are now a huge number of them marauding around the countryside. In this part of Somerset we see them even crossing our lanes and entering ponds.
We have a big pond, which has been entirely denuded of 60 or so healthy grass carp, of about 15lb each. All have gone to feed the otters.
Townees should realise that these matters are complex and require management. Neale Edwards
