US to cut arms sales to Russia over Skripals

The US has announced it will cut arms sales to Russia over the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury in March.

The move is part of sanctions that were announced on Aug 8 after the US state department indicated that Russia had used “chemical weapons in violation of international law or lethal chemical weapons against its own nationals”.

As part of the measures, the US will also refuse any American credit to the country.

The rouble has fallen to two-year lows this month on fears of new sanctions.
