Edinburgh Fringe ticket sales reach record high

-

More people than ever have attended shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, according to organisers.

An estimated 2,838,839 tickets had been issued by yesterday afternoon – a 5 per cent rise on the same point last year. Nearly half of the audience, who flocked to the city for shows throughout August, came from Scotland, early indications suggest.

Shona Mccarthy, chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, said 2018 had been another “fantastic” year. The figures emerged hours before the curtain came down on the festival which staged 3,548 shows across 317 venues, including a chicken coop with a seating capacity of three.
