SIR – While living at Micheldever Station in Hampshire during the Eighties, we received correspondence addressed to us at Mitchell Devastation (Letters, August 27).

SIR – Trying to explain how my surname was spelt, I told the inquirer it was “Just like ‘Give me a ring’.”

The next day I got a letter addressed to Mrs Give mearing.
