A Passage to Britain

 Dr Yasmin Khan concludes her illuminating historical series by focusing on arrivals to Britain from the Indian subcontinent on board MS Batory, which arrived in Southampton in 1954. Most of the ship’s passengers were young men who came to Britain looking for work and largely settled in the Midlands. By meeting the descendants of those on board the Batory, the empathetic Khan unearths compelling tales of struggle and success.
