Explosive ending for dog’s new chewy toy

-

A dog walker was horrified to find his pet chewing on a hand grenade it had picked up in Plymouth, Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called at 11.40am yesterday to assess the device before putting a cordon in place to make the area safe while it was dealt with.

The grenade is thought to be a relic from the Second World War and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team carried out a controlled explosion.

Members of the public were urged to stay away from the area but it has since been reopened.

One police officer who attended the scene said that when the device was exploded it “made a loud bang”.
