‘Hit-and-run’ bike victim fights for life

♦a suspected hit-and-run cyclist on an electric bike has left a woman fighting for her life. The 56-year-old victim was struck by the bike as she crossed Kingsland High Street in Dalston, east London, just after 5pm on Tuesday. She was in a critical condition in hospital last night.

Scotland Yard said a 30-year-old man has been arrested after the collision.

He was detained at an address in Islington, north London, on suspicion of causing bodily harm, failing to stop and failing to report a collision after contacting police at about 11pm on Wednesday.

Caleb Graba, 30, who works nearby, said that the cyclist was left bleeding, adding: “He was a bit dazed for a couple of minutes.”

“E-bikes” have a legal power-assisted speed of up to 15.5mph.
