Diana, as you would have never seen her before

 Diana, Princess of Wales, considered wearing a burka on a visit to Saudi Arabia during a 1986 tour of the Gulf states, it has emerged.

Sketches of proposed outfits included a full length gown and face covering designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, her wedding dressmakers, and marked “reserve outfit”.

The sketches could fetch £24,000 at auction in the US in September. Bobby Livingston, an executive at RR Auction in Boston, said: “Princess Diana tried to conform to local customs by wearing concealing clothes, but exposed her neck and left her head uncovered.” It is not thought Diana wore it during the trip, but the fact she was willing to consider it rekindled memories of her sensitivity to other cultures.
