Facebook apology for removal of Holocaust image
FACEBOOK has apologised for removing a Holocaust news article by the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect “for violating community standards”.
The image showed naked, emaciated children at a Nazi concentration camp and linked to a news article titled Americans and the Holocaust. Scary numbers.
The article revealed the results of a survey that showed almost a third of Americans believe that substantially fewer than six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. “You haven’t given us a reason, yet allow Holocaust Denial pages to still exist,” the centre tweeted. “Seems a little hypocritical?”
“As our Community Standards explain, we don’t allow people to post nude images of children on Facebook,” Facebook said in a statement.
The Anne Frank Center, based in New York, aims to educate people on intolerance and anti-semitism.
Facebook put the post back up after two days and an outcry on Twitter. “We don’t allow nude images of children on FB, but we know this is an important image of historical significance and we’ve restored it,” Facebook replied to the group’s tweet. “We’re sorry and thank you for bringing it to our attention.”
