What’s new?

Jamie Roberts is the big-name arrival – although Will Chudley and Joe Cokanasiga could have a bigger impact – but perhaps the most important addition is Girvan Dempsey, who joins as attack coach after a period of sustained success in the same role at Leinster.

Who is the director of rugby and what is the game plan?

Todd Blackadder will almost certainly lose his job if the club fail to improve on last season’s sixth-placed finish and he must get far more out of a back line that flattered to deceive last season. Dempsey’s arrival should change that.

Key man

Bath’s hopes were undermined by a knee injury suffered by Taulupe Faletau (right) back in December, and when he is fit and firing there are few who can match the Welsh No 8. He will be expected to drive Bath on.

Most exciting signing?

Cokanasiga is the latest man to leave London Irish for the Rec after the likes of Jonathan Joseph and Anthony Watson (both of whom are currently injured), and big things are expected from the giant 20-year-old wing, who has already been called up by England.

Who has it all to prove?

Freddie Burns rejoined Bath from Leicester last summer and so far it has not gone to plan, with Rhys Priestland taking his No 10 shirt and the fly-half linked with a move away. That failed to materialise but Burns will need to show far more if he is to thrive this season.

If they were an international side they would be ...

Wales. A hugely talented team who can beat anyone on their day, but sometimes fall short of realising their potential in front of an expectant home crowd.
