Journalists arrested over evidence theft
Two men arrested over the suspected theft of documents relating to a massacre in Northern Ireland 24 years ago have been named as journalists.
Barry Mccaffrey and Trevor Birney have spent years investigating events in Loughinisland in 1994, when six Catholic men were murdered by UVF loyalists in a pub.
The pair were detained in Belfast yesterday and later released after being questioned over confidential documents allegedly stolen in the police investigation.
The information was used in making the film No Stone Unturned, released in 2017, which alleged collusion between police and the UVF. It was produced by Mr Birney and Alex Gibney, an award-winning filmmaker.
