Eurozone jobless rate falls to 10-year low
Unemployment across the 19-country eurozone has fallen to its lowest level since the financial crisis a decade ago. Eurostat, the European Union’s statistics agency, said that the unemployment rate in July was 8.2pc. The rate is now the lowest since November 2008, when unemployment was soaring in the wake of Lehman Brothers’ collapse. However, there are still big disparities, with Germany’s jobless rate at 3.4pc, while Spain and Italy struggle with double-digit rates.
