Dark days for Labour
SIR – Frank Field was the MP in the next constituency to ours in industrial Cheshire during the Eighties, at a time when ICI only had enough coal for three more days, and feared laying off thousands of men.
I had forgotten the feeling of intimidation I had at that time – until I attended the local hustings in Somerset last year. Well-fuelled Momentum agitators turned up and let nobody express any opinions that differed from theirs. Many people left in tears. Mr Field is very brave indeed to stand up to these malevolent forces. Jacqueline King
