Widowed parents

SIR – I congratulate Siobhan Mclaughlin on winning the right to Widowed Parent’s Allowance in the Supreme Court (report, August 31).

I was not so lucky. In 1994 I lost my wife to cancer, leaving me with two pre-teen children. I ticked all the boxes except one: I was male. Richard Parry
