Wine tells of torture by Ugandan soldiers

Bobi Wine, the pop star turned politician, said yesterday that he was beaten by Ugandan soldiers who squeezed his genitals until he passed out. In his first statement since being arrested on Aug 14 for his alleged role in an incident in which President Yoweri Museveni’s motorcade was pelted with stones, he said the soldiers “violated me as if they were beasts”.

Mr Wine, whose real name is Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, left Uganda four days ago to seek medical care for his injuries in the United States.
