Bath University cuts pay of vice-chancellor by £200,000
Bath University has reduced the salary of its new vice-chancellor by more than £200,000 following criticism over its previous head, who was the highest paid in the country.
The university announced that Prof Ian White has been appointed as its new vice-chancellor on a £266,000 salary. The salary and benefits of his predecessor, Dame Glynis Breakwell, added up to £468,000.
Prof White, currently the deputy vice-chancellor at Cambridge University and Master of Jesus College, will not be given the grace-and-favour home that Dame Glynis enjoyed.
Also, while Dame Glynis was given a £31,489 interest-free loan for a car, there will be no “arrangement to fund a car” for Prof White.
Dame Glynis stepped down last month, following a six-month paid sabbatical and a “golden handshake” of £265,000.
She had faced repeated calls to resign.
