Sir John Eliot Gardiner conducts his Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique in their continuing series of performances of Berlioz, with this programme evoking a feel of the ancients with pieces La mort de Cléopâtre and the Royal Hunt and Storm and Dido’s Death Scene from his 1858 opera Les Troyens. In the interval, broadcaster Bettany Hughes and presenter Alex Clarke discuss the story of Troy and its many fictional incarnations, particularly those that led to the writing of Les Troyens.
