OVER A DECADE LATER, I CAN STILL FIT INTO MY WEDDING OUTFIT, TOO

- BY LUCY DUNN

There is an assumption that you always put on weight when you get older and that you will never fit into your wedding dress again, but this wasn’t the case for me.

I am on the same page as Victoria Beckham, who, dusting off her old Vivienne Westwood wedding gown for her video for British Vogue, has revealed that her dress still fits her after 19 years.

A quick poll in the office showed that most women weren’t sure whether they would be able to fit into theirs (for the record, the same applied to the men and morning suits, too).

As so many women go on drastic diets to slim down for their wedding, the average woman probably wouldn’t be able to, but I can’t imagine that many woman would be that upset if they tried on their old dress and found it didn’t fit. After all it’s all about the day, not the dress size.

I got married 16 years ago in New York’s City Hall (Sex and the City has a lot to answer for – it was my first trip to NYC and I really did think the pavements were lined with fashion gold). But I was at least a dress size larger then, with a toddler in tow. I felt fantastic in my outfit (a top and skirt from DKNY, since you ask), but now, in my fifties, the wedding skirt I bought doesn’t quite fit me – in fact, it’s too big. After my 40th, I went on a health regime and, 10 years on, I’m fitter, in better shape, and more confident than ever before.
