Porridge: an essential item of holiday luggage

sir – It appears that hotel chefs have lost the art of making good porridge. Offerings in the past have been bowls of extremely lumpy, cold cereal, sometimes too salty or too sweet.

On a recent weekend break, I took my own porridge oats – but the waiter told me that the chef did not know how to prepare them. My offer to make it myself in the hotel kitchen was turned down on “health and safety” grounds.
