The visitors’ book

SIR – If it has become the general policy for National Trust cottages to replace their visitors’ books with folders containing only positive comments, then I suggest Mike Webb (Letters, September 5) tries the Landmark Trust properties instead.

We have stayed in many and varied buildings, all of which have log books going back to the first opening of that property. All contain a fascinating mixture of advice, suggestions, complaints, and pictures, as well as a great deal of humour.
