Adoption of 6ft Great Dane proves every pup has its day

-

A FIVE-MONTH-OLD Great Dane that stands at more than 6ft (1.8m) has become the largest puppy to be adopted, a charity has said.

Arnie already weighs 95lb (43kg) and is still growing, making it the biggest canine to have been cared for by the Dogs Trust in Glasgow.

Julie and Colin Reid and their son Josh, from Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire, have re-homed it. Julie said: “I received a call from someone at Dogs Trust saying Arnie had come in and that it was a Great Dane.

“We didn’t have a specific breed in mind when looking for a pet but Arnie is the perfect companion.

“It is gentle, loving and so playful; it will definitely fit in at home, we are just relieved we have a big enough home to accommodate our new baby hippo.”

Dogs Trust said Arnie was handed in to them by a family who cited a change in personal circumstances.

Arnie, which according to Dogs Trust is big for its age and could grow to 190lb (90kg) as it gets older, eats a kilo-and-a-half of raw meat a day along with fish, eggs and vegetables.
