SIR – The latest example of credit card security being compromise­d by a hacker – this time affecting customers of British Airways – has sparked panic.

However, the informatio­n gleaned – name, address, email, credit card number, card expiry date and threedigit code – is no more than is freely divulged to a mail order firm when ordering online or by phone.

The only difference in the BA case is the number of people involved. The whole system is deeply flawed and invites fraud at every level. Andrew Yool
