John Lewis chairman rejects ‘Amazon tax’
The chairman of John Lewis, Sir Charlie Mayfield, has rejected calls for online retailers to be hit with a so-called “Amazon tax”, instead urging traditional players to adapt faster. Sir Charlie said he “struggled” with the belief that tech companies should be penalised because they had a leaner business model. He also described retailers enforcing employment practices that curb their tax bills as an issue of “competition and morality”. Business, Page 1
