Pedestrian killed by police car on 999 call

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a police car on a 999 call.

It happened on Lumbertubs Way in Northampto­n around 4am on Saturday. The matter has been referred to the Independen­t Office for Police Conduct. Northants Police said they had closed the A43 in both directions, between Round Spinney and St Gregory’s Road roundabout­s.

Appealing for witnesses, the police said: “The collision involved a police car responding to an emergency call and a pedestrian.” The identity of the victim will not be released until the relatives have been informed.
