Cold-call detector

-

SIR – Many will have been interested to read your report (September 8) about the current plague of cold calls.

Until a solution is found, I can recommend a simple way of coping with the problem: caller display.

If, when the phone rings, it does not display a name that I have programmed into it, I do not pick it up. Should the caller happen to be genuine, they can leave a message.

Thus, even though I receive many cold calls, I never have to engage in conversation and they do not become a nuisance. Lesley Simmons
