The brains behind Preston’s listed bus station

-

SIR – I should like to put the record straight concerning the design of Preston’s listed bus station (report, September 1), which has recently been renovated.

Ove Arup’s Manchester office acted as structural engineering consultants to Building Design Partnership – the commissioned architect. I was responsible, in the early Sixties, for an initial research report on bus station design worldwide, working with the Ove Arup Manchester partners Geoffrey Wood and Sid Heighway (father of Steve, the Liverpool striker). The design inspiration came from BDP’S Keith Ingham. John Whalley
