SIR – Alastair Sooke (Arts, September 5) describes Charleston Farmhouse – once the home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant – as “gorgeously decorated, romantically ramshackle”.

I’ve visited the house and believe I cannot be the only person to feel that if I had been their landlord I would have withheld their deposit. Clifford Brooker
