Iraq leader visits Basra after riots

Haider al-abadi, the Iraqi prime minister, tried to ease tensions in the country’s oil-rich south with a visit to Basra yesterday.

For five days last week, protesters against alleged corruption clashed with security forces and set fire to state buildings. Twelve demonstrators were killed.
