Man held over intruder’s biscuit theft

-

 A suspect has been arrested after a man burst into an 89-year-old’s home and helped himself to a packet of biscuits.

The 31-year-old man was held after officers apparently found him sitting on a sofa at a property in Newcastle. Police were called after a man knocked on the pensioner’s door, and allegedly forced his way into the house.

The resident rang 999 and Northumbria Police said officers were “stunned” when they found the suspected intruder snacking on the biscuits. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in custody.

Det Con Bob Wilson said: “Thankfully the elderly gentleman did not suffer any injuries during the incident. However, he was really scared by what happened as he was on his own at the time and had no way of protecting himself against this stranger who was in his home.

“An investigation has been launched into the circumstances as to why the man entered the property but he remains in custody at this time.”
