NHS IT black holes
SIR – The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, intends to sort out the NHS by improving IT (report, September 10).
Around a decade ago, his predecessors tried this with something called “Connecting for Health,” a white elephant that failed, costing in the realm of £12 billion. This is about the same cost as four new aircraft carriers.
Good luck to Mr Hancock, but I do wonder if my long-term health may be better served by ensuring the safety of the country.

SIR – After suffering a rare heart event in May 2014, my GP referred me to a consultant in London with specialist knowledge of the condition.
I saw this consultant in June 2015. He immediately contacted the hospital where I had been initially treated to request my file with the results of the tests performed on admission. It took staff nine months to send them.
How can such a delay be justified?
