Pro-life group is banned from freshers fairs
A PRO-LIFE student group claims to have been discriminated against after it was refused permission to set up stalls at freshers fairs.
The charity, called Life, has written to the independent regulator of higher education in England to express concern “about discriminatory behaviour and freedom of expression violations… by a number of university student unions”.
Anne Scanlan, a spokesman, said: “This year three university student unions have rejected our application to exhibit at their freshers fair. Our main intention behind having a stall at freshers fairs is to make students aware that we are there to support them if they are affected by an unplanned pregnancy and need help.”
A spokesman for Warwick Student Unions, where the group was prevented from operating, said: “The Students’ Union has a policy that was voted on by our members to support a prochoice stance.”
