German national party ‘belongs on dunghill’
The nationalist Alternative for Germany party (AFD) MPS came under fierce criticism from rivals in parliament yesterday after weeks of simmering tensions over far-right protests following the suspected murder of a man by migrants in the eastern city of Chemnitz. Branded fascists, all 94 AFD MPS walked out at one stage.
Martin Schulz, of the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD), shouted: “You belong on the dunghill of German history. It’s time for democrats to stand up and fight back.”
