Hurricane Helene on course to wreak havoc in Britain

-

Hurricane Helene could bring “extreme” weather to the UK, the Met Office has said.

The storm is currently swirling in the Atlantic Ocean, just behind Hurricane Florence, and its remnants are expected to hit Britain on Tuesday.

The latest map shows Helene moving in an easterly direction across the north Atlantic, carrying ferocious winds of up to 100mph. By the time it reaches Britain the remnants of the hurricane are expected to include potentially destructive winds of up to 73mph as well as heavy rain.

Alex Deakin, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “There’s a lot of uncertainty around the developments of that low pressure system. It could bring some warm weather, but it could also bring some pretty wet and windy weather, and the potential for some extreme weather.”

The weather for the rest of the week is forecast to be a mixture of showers and sunny spells.
