World says farewell to UN leader Kofi Annan
World leaders paid their last respects to Kofi Annan, the former United Nations secretary-seneral, at his state funeral in Ghana yesterday.
Annan died on Aug 18 in Bern, Switzerland, aged 80. The grandson of tribal chiefs, he was the first black African to become UN leader and was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. “Kofi Annan was courageous, speaking truth to power,” said Antonio Guterres, the current secretary-general.
