Police uniform adapted for female Muslim recruits
A Muslim-friendly police uniform “designed not to show the female form” has been trialled in a bid to recruit more female ethnic minority officers.
West Yorkshire Police’s new attire comes in a looser fit with full sleeves.
Asst Chief Constable Angela Williams said: “We have been trialling a new uniform for women designed not to show the female form, which was suggested by a Muslim female officer.”
She said the new kit has attracted “positive feedback from the local community”, and added: “I hope this uniform will encourage people from under-represented groups to consider a career in policing.”
