Celebrity life for sale... privacy not included

-

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall at the publishing pitch for Lily Allen’s memoir, which is out this week.

“I can give you romps with Liam Gallagher… when he was married.” Nods of approval, but with book sales as they are, execs were going to need more.

“Oh, I once kissed Lenny Kravitz’s daughter during a wild night of partying.” A flicker of excitement, but for a substantial sack of cash they were going to need the 33-year-old singer – who once said the press intrusion into her life left her feeling like “a caged animal” – to throw a few more of her celebrity friends under the bus.

“I could nail my father – blame him for it all.”

Everyone’s now looking distinctly perkier. All that’s needed to seal the deal and get My Thoughts Exactly on the shelves are a few of the kind of confessions that leave you looking better than before.

Allen may insist that revelations she paid high-class prostitutes to keep her company on tour are “not really, like, a salacious sex story” but they’re not likely to damage her rock star credibility either.

And, curiously, the most truthful and damaging admission – “there’s no part of my life I wouldn’t flog for a comeback” – was left out.
