Taiwanese flag honour at British veteran’s funeral

Four Taiwanese officers will drape the country’s flag over a British veteran’s coffin, 77 years after his unit’s rescue in Burma by Nationalist Chinese troops.

Gerald Fitzpatrick, 99, a King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry captain, had requested that his coffin be covered in the flag of the Republic of China, its official name, at tomorrow’s funeral.
