THE WOMEN AT TEMPERLEY AND VICTORIA BECKHAM

- VM

When it comes to moving forward with model casting, fashion seasons feel, in the words of Paula Abdul, as if they’re going two steps forward and three steps back. For every “grown-up” casting (ie, women past the grand old age of 20), there seems to be a rush of very, very thin and very young models (they have to be 16 at least, but…). Which comes in spite of the general mood towards a mature silhouette and recognition of what working women really want to wear (and surely be shown). It jars. When Helen Mccrory (at Temperley – who also cast her mother and the 64-year-old photographer, Ellen von Unwerth, in the show) and Stella Tennant (at Victoria Beckham and Burberry) appear on a catwalk, it feels like a generous salve. More, please.
