Italy blames ‘fake news’ as prosecco sales go flat

-

Prosecco exports to Britain have fallen for the first time in a decade, as drinkers turn to English fizz. Exports of the Italian sparkling wine dropped 7 per cent in the first half of the year after nearly a decade of booming sales, according to Italian statistics. More than a quarter of all the prosecco Italy exports is consumed by the British, but that dominance has now been dented, with producers blaming Brexit and “fake news” about the fizz supposedly leading to rotten teeth.
