Promotional blitz to revive Salisbury tourism
GOVERNMENT funding is being ploughed into a tourism campaign to lure visitors back to Salisbury following the Novichok poisonings.
Adverts for the forthcoming Salisbury Literary Festival have been taken out in both The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian this weekend, featuring the city’s cathedral and its 403ft spire.
The image, spanning a mist-covered field, is a far cry from the photographs of forensic officers and police cordons that have become synonymous with the area.
The adverts are being funded with part of the money set aside by the Government to help Salisbury get back on its feet after months of negative publicity.
It announced in March that £2.5million was being ring-fenced to help the area recover. Of that, £200,000 was earmarked for a package of tourism promotion.
