Man carrying Taser at Buckingham Palace is arrested

- By Martin Evans

A MAN has been arrested at Buckingham Palace on suspicion of possessing a firearm, Scotland Yard has said.

The 38-year-old was detained at around 1pm yesterday by security staff at one of the Palace’s visitor entrances, after being found carrying a Taser.

The man was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. Sources said the incident was not being treated as terror related. In a statement, a Scotland Yard spokesman said: “He remains in custody at a central London police station at this stage.”

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the incident. The Queen is currently at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on her summer break. Last month a homeless man was jailed after being caught sleeping in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. Steven Lawler, who had 70 previous convictions, broke into the grounds and smashed a glass display cabinet to use posters as a blanket.
