A MOTORIST is fighting for his life after being crushed by his car while using a ticket barrier at Stansted Airport.

The 63-year-old man was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with life-threatening head injuries following the incident, which happened yesterday morning.

The motorist, from Waltham Cross, Herts, is believed to have been injured when his car rolled over him after he got out while trying to exit the Express Set Down car park area, witnesses said.

Essex Police said officers were called shortly before 4am to reports of the incident in Terminal Road North.

One airport worker, who began his shift shortly after the accident took place, said: “I got into work at about 6am and we were told that the Terminal Road North was closed. It was a tragic accident.

“There is a bit of a slope at the exit and for whatever reason he had got out of his car and gone in front of it.

“The car has then rolled forward and he’s got trapped between the car and the boom.” Police said their inquiries were continuing into the accident.
