At the World Bridge Series in Orlando, Florida, the matches for the rounds of 64 and 32 Open teams have taken place, writes Julian Pottage, Bridge Correspond­ent.

The all-english Allfrey team (Alexander Allfrey, Andrew Robson, Thomas Paske and Edward Jones) has won through to the round of 16, beating Cayne in the round of 32. Multinatio­nal teams in the last 16 that include at least one English player are Frogs (Tony Forrester), Schwartz (David Gold) and Tulin (David Bahkshi). A team with two Irish players, Adam Mesbur and Nicholas Fitzgibbon, Texan Aces, has also made it to the last 16.

In the Women’s teams, both the Anglo-american Baker team and the Anglo-scottish-scandinavi­an Smith team have made it into the last 8. Both teams have started their their quarter-final matches strongly. Baker (Sally Brock, Fiona Brown and 4 Americans) leads Poland 138-127, while Smith (Nicola Smith, Yvonne Wiseman, Paula Leslie, 2 Swedes and a Norwegian) has a huge 168-47 lead against the American Quinn team.
